“THERE’S
SOMETHING ABOUT A TRAIN” --
CNN’s
David Gergen, upon the arrival of the The Obama Express in Washington Union
Station
on January 17, 2009. Obama Express Georgia
300
A
new Railway Age has begun in America with the “on time” arrival
of The Obama Express. The coolest president-elect pulled into Washington,
DC, in the coolest possible way aboard the palatial private railway car “Georgia
300”. Vice president-elect Joe Biden promised that theirs would be
the most railroad-friendly administration in history and he kept his word
when his favorite Amtrak Conductor, Gregg Weaver, was the first to address
the crowd--and the world--from the Wilmington, DE, station. The incoming
Obama Administration knows that the railroad is the most energy efficient,
environmentally friendly, safest and fun way to travel! So, with the prospect
that a new rail era is upon us, I have chosen this auspicious day to inaugurate
my train-focused website. It will cover rail news and views here and abroad,
including Amtrak, VIA Rail Canada, Germany’s luxurious ICE and France’s
TGV (the world’s fastest train at 357mph, yes MILES per hour), and
those wonderful railway confections like Switzerland’s Glacier Express,
Canada’s Rocky Mountaineer and the superb Venice Simplon-Orient-Express.
Great rail destinations will be covered as well including the most amazing
railway station in the world, Berlin’s new station, the Cathedral
of 21st Century Transportation.
All Aboard!
